Issue Management
 Why bother having a formal issue management process – doesn’t everyone know what the issues are and we are all working towards resolving them – right?

This is not an uncommon approach to handling issues when dealing with projects. Many project managers are deemed unsuccessful, even if the project is delivered on time and on budget because they failed to recognize the value of effective issue management. This part of the discussion will focus on proper identification of issues, how to utilize issue tracking tools to facilitate discussions and decision making, how to encourage team members to raise issues and how to effectively have the difficult discussions on projects that often are avoided.

Risk Management
If I’m managing issues why do I need to manage risk too? What’s really the difference between a risk and an issue? Can’t I just wait until the risk actually becomes an issue and deal with it then?

These are all good questions and the discussion will focus around the value of managing risks in advance of them becoming issues. We will also discuss different techniques used by various companies to manage their risks. What is really key in risk management thought is the insight it provides you, as the project manager into the tolerance of your customer. Come find out how to utilize that knowledge to be a more effective project manager.

Speaker Bio:

Kim Lesley is a vice president of Capgemini’s North American business, responsible for project and consulting work with one of their largest accounts worldwide, Hydro One Networks Inc.

She has over 16 years experience in the SAP arena (and over 20 years industry experience) with most of that time spent managing large, complex implementations. Her key knowledge area in SAP is in the FI/CO, Asset Accounting, Project Systems and Cross Module Reporting. Her experience in Business Transformation includes business process reengineering, performance management, custom development, and project management. She has been managing consulting projects for over 10 years and has managed several project through a complete project lifecycle including a number of international implementations (Brazil, Argentina, England, USA, Canada)

Prior to joining the Consulting world, Ms. Lesley worked at Volkswagen Canada. During her tenure there she participated in their implementation of SAP – one of the earliest implementations in Canada of SAP R/3.

An industry leader in the delivery of large, complex projects Ms. Lesley has a unique perspective working both from the client’s point of view as well as a consultant’s point of view. Her thought leadership and creative approach to issue resolution has enabled her to work successfully on more than 15 end to end system implementations throughout her career

Ms. Lesley has lived and worked in many countries across the world but hails from the east coast of Canada. She grew up, began her career and has now returned to Toronto, Canada. She possesses a diploma in both Business Administration and Accounting in addition to her PMP designation.
